As of January 2009 we became a family of six as we brought home our 2 (deaf) Ethiopian sons! January 2010 our 3rd daughter was born and now we are a family of 7! What a blessing! Jillian is a freelance American Sign Language(ASL) Interpreter but primarily a stay-at-home mom. Ashley is a Combat Engineer for the Marine Corps. This is a little of our journey!

Sometimes it looks like...

Sometime it looks like anger...
0 to 60,
loud words,
slamming door,
angry sighs,

Sometimes it looks like depression...
yesterday's PJs,
unkept hair,
remaining on the couch or in the bed,
lethargic,

Sometimes it looks like addiction...
binge eating,
secret food,
late night trips,
extra stops,

Sometimes it looks like mental instability...
wondering aimlessly,
staring for hours,
drastic physical changes,
inability to follow dialogs,

Sometimes it looks like insomnia...
hours of books,
hours of TV,
hours of tossing and turning,
hours of nothingness,

Sometimes it looks extreme...
it takes over your life,
changes your being,
defines your inner circle,
and rewires your thinking

Sometimes people recommend...
a book,
prayer,
exercise,
sleep,
medication,
natural herbs and supplements,
vitamins,
more sunshine,
respite,
vacations,
therapy,
church,
sex,
learning a new hobby,
motivational quotes,

Sometimes people looking in, think they know it is...
regret,
trauma,
too much for one person,
adopting older children,
adopting out of birth order,
PTSD,
RAD,
anger,
depression,
addiction,
mental instability,
insomnia,

Sometimes everyone overlooks the obvious...

See, ....I could never see tomorrow, I was never told about the sorrow, How can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? Tell me how can you stop the sun from shinning? What makes the world go 'round? How can you mend this broken man?...

Sometimes it looks like we are...
amazing,
advocates,
relentless,
passionate,
determined,
ludicrous,
unhinged,

while we try to help our children heal- children we longed for, fought for, prayed for, cried for-children that have no attachment to us...

Maybe, we are just simply at a loss as to what to do- Al Green sang it it well- How do you mend a broken heart?

Ours and theirs...
